This Is Our Common Duty

Our futures have been seized and it’s time to claim them back.

Common Duty was founded to create a better quality of life for the American public by injecting democracy into local decision-making processes. Leaders have become accustomed to unilateral decision-making. They discourage questions with technical jargon and buzzwords like "safety," "economic development," and "convenience," allowing them to commission projects that harm our communities and disproportionately affect marginalized populations.

We believe every citizen deserves a high quality of life, and that local democratic participation is the cornerstone to achieving that.

Learn more about Common Duty below!

  • Our mission is to help citizens reclaim control of our collective future by ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, income, or race, has the knowledge, support, and confidence to ask the right questions and demand more from their representatives.

  • We envision a society where everyone has access to a better quality of life. Where the community is engaged in critical decisions, championing democracy in our everyday lives.

  • Citizens have been removed from local decision-making processes and the future of their communities. Many leaders take for granted that they won't be questioned, and we’re here to flip the script.

We believe that participation in civic life is not just a right, but our democratic duty. And we believe that every individual has the power to make a difference; it starts by exercising one's voice.

Common Duty provides tools to help individuals gain an understanding of what’s happening in their communities, an awareness of what they need, and the confidence to engage with the public and decision-makers.
